Welcome to Woolyungah

Woolyungah Indigenous Centre (WIC) is UOW's culturally grounded hub for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student belonging and success. Woolyungah is committed to increasing the participation and engagement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples at the University of Wollongong, providing programs, services and facilities that support students from their first steps into uni through to successful completion of their degree, career readiness and beyond.

With a strong community focus, Woolyungah is a safe space where students can embrace their culture, meet other students and feel at home while they study. Here, students can access tailored academic and wellbeing support, cultural activities and professional development opportunities that empower them to achieve academic excellence and navigate their own path to success.

We acknowledge that Country for Aboriginal peoples is an interconnected set of ancient and sophisticated relationships. The University of Wollongong spreads across many interrelated Aboriginal Countries that are bound by this sacred landscape, and intimate relationship with that landscape since creation.

Woolyungah is committed to supporting our students to not only succeed, but to enjoy their time at UOW, with access to free tutoring, targeted scholarships, cultural events and employment opportunities available.

ITAP - Indigenous tailored academic program

Free face-to-face academic support that aims to improve educational outcomes for Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students at UOW.

WIC facilities

WIC provides dedicated study and support facilities for Indigenous students, with 24-hour access for individual study, group study, and ITAP tutoring

Our commitment

The University of Wollongong is committed to Indigenous advancement and strives to create culturally safe campuses for our staff students and communities. Our current Indigenous Education and Engagement Strategy provides an overarching framework that illuminates the University’s commitment to an accountable, transparent way forward to progress the outcomes for and with our Indigenous staff, students, communities, and partners.

A centralised plan designed to create a more inclusive, responsible and supportive environment, ultimately promoting healing and transformative change.

Driven and delivered by the Indigenous Strategy and Engagement Unit encompassing the strategic actions of the Indigenous Strategy Unit and the Woolyunguh Indigenous Centre.
